Advertising Age is making the claim in a recent article “Never mind the buzz: social nets get small share of consumers’ time.” With increasingly accurate metrics and studies continually being released like the OPA stats mentioned in this Adage article, it is more crucial than ever for agencies and brands to build social networking strategies which feature truly engaging content and features that keep consumers interested.

MediaPost recently published this interesting commentary on agencies and their understanding of the online social media landscape…
The article touches on a variety of topics including the the recent controversial TNS study which pointed out how major agencies are blowing it with major campaigns on social media platforms.
One interesting quote from the commentary: “The study, which is the result of 71 phone interviews with marketing people in the U.S., Canada, France and the U.K., found that agencies are still mostly concerned with using social media as a viral blast technique, when, to some extent, the real action is in conversations, good or bad, about a company’s products and services.”
The article goes on to discuss how major agencies are generally talking the talk but not walking the walk, as they launch company blogs and social networking profiles which are rarely updated or host any interesting content.
