A variety of niche social networks are all good and fine, but as a user signed on to multiple networks, it becomes impossible to update all your individual profiles regularly- hopefully some smart programmers will start developing easy to use apps and widgets that populate and update all your social networks at once…

Totally agree. The coming months will be very exciting to watch. With the whole widget craze and new “social networks” being developed, it will be interesting to see which existing networks adapt.

I don’t think so. With more and more networks, people start demanding more out of them. They want to have a video playing right next to the inbox and they want a music widget blaring right next to their profile photos! Unless these networks themselves do something about it and upgrade themselves, the demand won’t stop…

Agreed, and we think the intention is not for everyone to be everywhere, but rather to find your comfort zone and settle there. Do you think that there is 1 social network out there that can accommodate everything for everyone? The closest thing to it today would have to be MySpace with the breadth of content, channels and the mass amounts of people already there. Can MySpace maintain its current course and become the one-stop shop for Social Networking?

The funny part of the whole “social network” craze is that each new one tries to out shine the other and fails miserably. There’s a networking site called Orkut, I dont know if you’ve heard of it. It’s quite famous in Asia. When it first started, google advertized it as Asia’s MySpace! It was so much like MySpace in terms of content and applications!!
Personally, I find it troublesome to maintain an account in all these sites and check them daily for new messages and friend requests!!
